How to survive being poorly when you're at uni

How to survive being poorly when you're at uni

Ok, so i'm basically an expert on this subject, during freshers week last year i managed to contract mono (kind of like the flu but lasts much much longer), and no in case you're wondering i didn't catch it from kissing, i got it from sharing a drink with someone. I basically spent the entire first semester incredibly poorly. Now i'm 5 weeks into second year and I've already had a sickness bug, allergic reactions and finally a kidney infection. I Know you're probably;y thinking I'm one of those people who are always sick, you'd be wrong, I'm normally the person that never gets ill, all of that changes when you're thrown into student accommodation with 8 other germy people (its pretty much unavoidable).

So, heres my guide to surviving being poorly when your parents aren't around to comfort you.

1. Go home for the weekend

You don't actually have to tough this out on your own, its most likely that you'll feel more home sick because you're having to look after yourself (and that sucks). Go home for the weekend, get some motherly love, you can also get your washing done!

2. Go to the doctors

I know it can be daunting to call the doctors yourself for the first time but if you're incredibly poorly you're better off going to see a doctor, you may need a prescription or what ever disease you're harboring will get worse. So tough it up and get on the phone.

3. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

If you feel like you're coming down with a cold or the dreaded freshers flu, try to sleep for around 12 hours, even if you don't feel that tires, your body is in repair mode when you sleep, you're more likely to fight off the germs when you're sleeping. This one should be easy, as a student you should be adept in the art of napping.

4. Eat your fruit and veggies

It may be really tempting to pig out on pizza and cheesecake, which is perfectly fine, just try to get some fruit and veg in their to boost youre vitamin levels! it will help you feel way way better.

Review of Bleach London The Big Pink

Bleach London: The Big Pink

I've recently been making a lot of spontaneous decisions and one of those was to dye my hair pink, i just thought id try it and see how it went, 2 hours later i had lovely candy coloured hair (as you can see from the picture)

I decided to use Bleach London the big pink because its only temporary, it washes out within 2-10 shampoos, which is brilliant if you're a little worried about it going majorly wrong. I had previously used the bleach London dip dye kit (which in case you were wondering is amazing! i'd definitely suggest this product if you're thinking of a DIY dip dye) so my hair was much lighter on the ends than at the root, my hair is naturally a mousy brown colour and the ends were a light blonde.
I love my pink hair so much ill probably be using the big pink for a while to keep it looking bright.

The Bleach London colours sell at £5 each and they have the following colours to chose from: Bullini, Rose, Awkward Peach, Tangerine Dream, Sea Punk, I Saw Red, The Big Pink, Violet Skies, Washed out orange and Washed Up Mermaid. They also do a ton of other products so get yourself over to their website to see if there's something perfect for you.

How to get the look

1. The should be applied to clean towel dried hair so hop in the shower before you start.

2. once your hair is clean and sufficiently towel dried you can begin to apply the dye (i actually mixed some conditioner in with the dye so that there was enough mixture to coat my hair and so that it would produce a lighter shade but this is entirely optional).

3. The best way to apply the dye is to have someone do it for you (i had the help of my lovely mum), this is because they can see which areas are covered better than you can. However if you re doing this solo i advise to massage it in to your hair to make sure you don't miss any areas.

4. I left my dye on for around 15 minutes, i would test a small section of your hair by wiping some of the dye off that area with a wet cotton pad, if its the colour you're wanting then wash it off. I would advise you to buy the Bleach London reincarnation mask to repair any damaged hair.

5. If you want a lighter pink leave it for less time or mix well with conditioner.

6. Style your hair however the hell you want!

Review of Free from frizz blowout shampoo and conditioner for normal/fine hair

Free from frizz blowout products for normal/fine hair.

Today I'm going to review the free from frizz shampoo and conditioner for normal or fine hair, this comes in a delightful watermelon scent to make your locks smell amazing! The shampoo and conditioner usually sell for £5.99 each and you can buy them in a set on the free from frizz website.

If you have hair like mine (a mix of unruly curls and waves that go frizzy at even the mention of humidity) then this shampoo is worth buying!
Since using this shampoo I have noticed a dramatic change in my hairs appearance and tolerance to humidity. My hair is sleeker, shinier and to my surprise doesn't start to curl when it's foggy outside after I've spent an hour blow drying and straightening it.

As you can see in the picture there is also a six week blowout treatment. You can buy the treatment along with the shampoo and conditioner for £26.97 on the free from frizz website. After my success with the shampoo and conditioner I will definitely be trying this treatment and will review it for you lovely readers.

Tips for use

Wet your hair (obviously) and apply the shampoo close to the scalp, give yourself a head massage until the shampoo is worked in well (the massage will stimulate your hair follicles to increase growth. It's also really relaxing). You can repeat this step once more if required.

Rinse the shampoo out and coat your hair in the conditioner, focusing on the ends of the hair where the most damage occurs. Rinse this out after a few minutes.

FINALLY: if you can stand it, rinse your hair with cold water to lock in the follicles and increase the shine of your hair.

For those of you with thicker hair, free from frizz also do products for thick/coarse hair in a mango scent, if these are anywhere near as good as the watermelon treatments its worth a try, they sell at the same price as the watermelon shampoo and in the same shops.
